Napping

Have you taken naps before? That little mid day siesta can some times be that little pick me up you need. But with napping there are some benefits and some downfalls.

Napping consists of 10-30 minute nap and the benefits can leave you feeling recharged, boost your mood, and zap stress. Now if you happen to sleep for over 30 minutes you may get this thing called sleep inertia. You know when you wake up from a long nap and you feel disoriented and groggy, that is sleep inertia.

Today I took a long nap and woke up groggy and disoriented. I woke up one other time but was way to tired to get up. It felt like I slept all night and day. I haven’t taken a nap in a long time. But I was reading and just was so tired and angry and I couldn’t understand why. I thought I was sleeping right. I woke up this morning more moody then normal and just didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t until I just woke up 30 minutes ago that I realized how exhausted I was. The stress of everything has been leaving me feel like I am in fight or flight mood and that constant drain on my adrenals just caused that emergency napping session.

Did you know there’s 3 types of napping? Planned, emergency, and habitual? I had no idea.

Some people can view napping as laziness or low ambition but that isn’t the case at all. Napping is a way to improve performance by 40% and alertness by 100% just with a 40 minute session. Sometimes our brains need to do a hard reset just like a computer throughout the day. We all do it and it’s okay if you do!

Could you use a 20 minute nap? Would you benefit from adding a 20 minute nap into your day? If you can find the time to add it into your day it might benefit you, Especially around 3 pm.

I know this is short one, sorry. I have sleep inertia. Haha

Today I am at a 4. I think that nap helped it!
