Protecting your dreams
You know those days you get sucked into the obstacles and then you start to doubt or postpone working on your dreams? Maybe things aren’t moving as fast as you would like them too or you feel stuck like things aren’t moving at all. Don’t fret! That happens. It’s part of the journey. So what can you do in those moments or days that you get into the noise in your head?
Remember every day is not going to be a 100% effort kind of day. There are going to be days where you have nothing left in the tank. Or days where you just need a break from everything. Yes we all want to accomplish our dreams but these things aren’t overnight successes, they are long arduous days of dedicated work. It’s like we discussed yesterday about small bites to finish the feast we have to be patient with ourselves. Another thing is to keep reinforcing your dream, give that baby power. You know you want it, don’t just give up on it because something came up and derailed progress. Get back up and tackle that bad boy again.
It’s great that you have such determination and drive, that’s what makes you capable of reaching that goal! I just want to remind you that humans aren’t meant to work 40 hours a week. We start to cripple under the stress, the strain of it and if we don’t take time for ourselves and recharge and reload then we go into burnout. That is a time where you hate what you do and have no joy in doing it. Maybe you just go on autopilot and instead of pursuing the things you want you instead get dragged down into sitting on the couch just trying to recharge.
So here are some things you can do to help you protect your dreams from shattering because life and obstacles are just piling up today:
1. Go read a book. Something that makes you laugh or feel happy. Not everything has to be work on yourself all day everyday. If you want to read a fantasy novel do it! Give yourself that space to have fun, it’s not always about growth. Because all that does is put pressure on yourself.
2. Go workout. This can be anything from doing yoga to walking around the neighborhood to taking a cycling class. Get that body moving! Dancing is always a great way to get pumped up.
3. Clean your house or space. Tidying up your space or de-cluttering an area can actually help you free up space to think. With to much junk around you it can already add to the pressure surrounding you. Maybe you go through your clothes and finally get rid of the 20 years piled up of clothing. Freedom baby!
4. Do something creative. This can be an arts and craft to cooking a meal. Maybe you do a sudoko puzzle or play video games that involve an open world concept that allow you to create your character. Whatever you do just create one small thing. Seeing that finished piece come to life before your eyes will help that instant gratification itch and free you from feeling like you didn’t achieve something today.
5. Hang out with some friends and go grab coffee or play a board game. Make time for your relationships. These people are in your life and making sure to create time for them will show just how much you appreciate them.
6. Meditate. Put on some relaxing music or whatever helps you let go and listen to your breathing. Feel the world around you and be present in the moment. Watching the thoughts go by like cars on the street. Not getting dragged by them or chasing them. Be comfortable in the unsettling ness of the present.
7. Put on a new show. Stop watching re-runs for the day. Challenge yourself to try something new and different then your normal routine. Watch an animation or maybe a new series. Get out of the rut by going into a new show or movie with the uncertainty of things. When we watch reruns we stay in the comfortable. That only perpetuates those days feeling defeated or not 100%. Get into something new.
8. Go for a drive while listening to new music or a podcast or a new book. Get out of your space and go for a drive. Sometimes relaxing at home is just as stressful as work because you feel like there is so much to do. That is why just driving for an hour or something will help you just be okay with chilling out. When you have no destination or time constraints the journey becomes more free. Enjoy it.
9. Pick up a new hobby. Sure you are going to suck at it at first and not know what you are doing. But try it anyways. Challenge yourself with an instrument or maybe painting. You never know what you may just fall in love with. Maybe that hobby becomes your self care.
10. Make a cup of tea and sit by the window. Just be present with your surroundings. Watch snow falling outside your window. Stare at the sky with all the stars. Make shapes in the clouds. Be present and sit there while doing nothing and sipping your tea.
These are some things I can think of for you to recharge yourself so that way you don’t get burnt out on just working on your dream. When we focus so intently on one thing only and how we expect it to turn out we are surely to see disappointment when that thing doesn’t workout the way we wanted or the speed we wanted. That is why they say never throw your eggs in one basket. Diversify. Because that way the dream you have will be that much richer because the journey was that more fun along the way. Those things are ways you protect your dreams from becoming well wishes and distant memories. Sure we all want instant gratification, but learn to be okay in not getting everything right away. That way you can do other things you love to pass the time.
Today was a 10!
