New Hobbies

So lately I have been trying a wide variety of new things. From geocaching to golfing, to hiking and macrame. This quarantine has given me the opportunity to find things that I enjoy. And lately the thing I am enjoying highly is golf. Today I got to just do some putting for the first time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So lets talk about what you look for in a hobby?

I have a wide variety of hobbies, and from time to time I change it up. I will start something then after a bit I change to something else then eventually go back to it. I need variety in my life. It’s just how I have always been. From drawing to playing cards to playing video games to martial arts. I am always doing something. Even tv, is a great hobby of mine. Mindless sometimes but still one I do have while I am doing other things. Mostly as background noise. What are some of your hobbies? Does that hobby give you a great outlet?

For me I have been going to the drive range a lot and really focusing on technique, form, and breathing. I am working on the follow through and commitment. My biggest struggles in anything I do is committing to it. I need to find the perfect balance of freedom and routine otherwise it becomes a cage for me. Damn you Sagittarius birthday.

You know what I like about golf? There is so much to it. You have to combine technique with breath, you have to free your mind from emotions. There is a sense of freedom in it and then you have to focus your intentions. Plus when you put the geometry really gets my mind trying to solve the angles. I am not a math whiz by any means but geometry I can dig. But golf is very similar to life. You take a shot towards a goal and sometimes you fall short or are way off but you keep plugging away until you get there. It may take you numerous attempts or it may be a few swings but with consistency you will get there. That is why I think the sport is rather beautiful. Instead of a bunch of men bashing each other’s bodies to get a ball. You are solo with it and it all depends on you. Not saying football or any sport is bad, but it’s not my cup of tea.

Hobbies are a great way to get out pent up stress, push away Borden and stimulate your mind. If you don’t have a hobby or feel like you need to be good at something right away then I say practice patience and just start somewhere. You crawl before you walk and you learn with training wheels before you go. Accept your humanity and that you are going to suck at first or maybe you have a small proclivity to the hobby. Just know it’s human and normal but if you never try then you will never have anything. It will always be fueled with regret or long wishes about why am I not good at that. Put in the work and get after it instead of pitying yourself.

Today was an 8. Good day :)

Happy birthday Ann!!!! Hope your day was amazing!
