When in doubt, compassion out!

Have you ever had so many thoughts racing that it made your heart begin to race as well. Not every thought was good, but not all were bad either. And there you are down the rabbit hole, 30 steps into a future that somehow seemed either impossible or just a dead end? Well with as much thinking as we do it’s bound to happen.

So what does this type of thinking tell us? Well for one it shows structure, how from point a gets to point b, and so on. It tells the creative side, envisioning things that you hope to happen, or expect. (Expectations will ruin your happiness btw.) It shows you that you have the ability to plan and what the desired outcome would be to said plan. Then what does this mean? Well now with all that day dreaming thought thinking it means now you just have to implement that exact thing if you want. If you didn’t want to spiral down into thought land and wind up in your own personal hell then we need to use compassion to get out.

You’re having a moment where your thoughts are spiraling out and you start to feel overwhelmed and freak out. What is the first thing I want you to do? Take 5 deep breaths, this will help stimulate the parasympathetic response so that you can start to calm down. Next this may sound funny but I want you to hug yourself. This will further assist that response so that you can calm down. While hugging yourself this is when you need to use compassion. Remember these thoughts are part of a pattern. Compassion is allowing yourself to accept it, to forgive, to use kindness when you talk to yourself. Imagine a little kid who did something wrong, and then you start yelling at them. What does that accomplish? It only creates fear. It teaches them to hide that part of themselves because they don’t want to be yelled out or judged. So instead of berating yourself, use that compassion. Then in the future you may be more apt to catching those thoughts and prevent them from causing you such stress.

Remember to use compassion when it comes to yourself. You are worthy of it. By doing that you are able to help yourself grow, mature, and want to eventually change any habits that no longer serve your growth.
