Winter Blues
I am a sun worshipper. My days lately have been full of fatigue and exhaustion. Winter is a hard time for many, especially those prone to depression and anxiety. It’s like I am going into hibernation mode and all I want to do is sleep. The lack of vitamin d, warmth and feeling full is so real. How is it for you? Does the seasons mess with you as well?
Yesterday I was so exhausted I tried to go to bed at 830 because I was falling asleep on the couch. I couldn’t think of anything to write or felt no motivation to do it. You ever have days like that? Where you are just so tired even if it wasn’t a really taxing day and instead you just succumb to doing nothing and being half comatose? This is why I dislike winter so much. I spend more time indoors because I freeze so unbelievably fast and I barely get enough vitamin d to function. It leaves me run down and withdrawn.
So in these moments what are some great things we can do in order to change this? 1. Bundle up and go for a walk outside, (bring my rechargeable hand warmers) 2. Take some vitamin d and maybe a multivitamin as well. 3. Get a happy lamp. 4. Maybe go tanning 1x a week just to get some extra sun. Along with these things there are other alternatives such as meditating, doing yoga, and exercising. If it gets to be really bad please seek out help from a health care professional. Sometimes during these times of the year you may need some extra assistance and that is perfectly okay.
The sun is so important for our moods, our hormones and our bodies. It creates vitamins, warmth and happy dispositions. In winter with those short days, cold weather and less sun we are more prone to this type of seasonal affective disorder. That is why it is so important to take care of yourself during the winter months. Use the above steps if you can to help you get out of the funk and remember to stay hydrated. The heat will take away the moisture so lots of water. Stay healthy my friends.
Today was a 5.
