Adventures in the great outdoors
For the past couple days I have spent everyday going hiking. There is so much to this world and when I am not exploring or adventuring that is when I lose motivation. I push myself everyday to hike more and more because I truly enjoy being in nature. I can’t wait to get a bike and then my watch so I can really track myself. My goal is to walk a 5k everyday until I feel up to running again. You see back in December I got really really sick and it caused scar damage in my lungs. When I exert myself that is when I start wheezing. I went for so many tests and tried everything and all the doctors said was it was asthma. Out of nowhere I developed severe asthma, get outta here. I believe that it was this covid-19 and I am going to schedule myself to get that antibody test.
Anyways being outside really speaks to me. I use to spend so much of my time and days stuck inside watching the same television show over and over. Depressed and sad I felt helpless to change. This was last year after a lot of things happened personally for me. Then I started to realize the respite the great outdoors is for my inner sanctity. I thrive when I am able to hike through nature or just go on a random walk. Even sitting in my lawn chair throwing the ball for my dog is something I enjoy. The longer this quarantine goes on the more I get to know myself and what is best for me in order to change.
Do you go on adventures outside? With friends? By yourself? Where are some of your favorite places to go? Do you like the forest or do you like the city more? Getting to know what kind of place creates peace in you is a great way to understand how you are fueled. Do you love the city? The loudness, the connectedness to other people? Or do you like hiking through the forest in the quiet of nature? Everyone is different. Some people might enjoy walking around a mall because they like to shop with their eyes or just be around a lot of people while some may just like to go to a beautiful mountain and make their way through the twists and tuns. Whatever is best for you then do that. Adventures don’t need to be just a hike or a walk, you could go for a drive. Sit in your back yard and look up at the stars. Adventure is however you define it.
I challenge you to go on one adventure by the end of the week. It can be anything that is not part of your daily rituals and responsibilities. Try to incorporate the outdoors in it if you can. Even if its the drive only then allow yourself to be really present in the drive. Allow just 5 minutes at least in nature while you do an adventure! And don’t forget to have fun with it. While I hike I love listening to music. Putting my headphones on and just grinding to the top of whatever I am hiking just puts me at ease. Try it yourself sometime. Sure going with people is fun but for me I love doing a lot of things by myself. I truly enjoy my company plus I am able to go at whatever pace I am feeling. So what type of adventure are you going to take??
Today I was at a 7. It was a great day!
