The Weight of Inaction
Inaction is the mentality that leads to depression, anxiety and loss of control. Through action we find momentum, we find determination and a sense of accomplishment. Through action we stay steady and happy. But like I have said in posts before like attract likes, and this law of attraction is one real bad bitch. You sit on the couch watching tv, what happens you may get depressed or feel like you never want to get up again. You lose the sense of movement and succumb to the couch cushions swaddling embrace. Ambition to get up is lost and every second you don’t get up leads you further and further down your own spiral train. Thoughts like well maybe just one more episode, or I can do that tomorrow start to become your choice of vocabulary. This goes for everything in life.
You allow yourself to eat one more cheat day and weeks later you have gained 15lbs. You buy a book that is sitting there eyeing you saying “read me, read me.” But you never open to the first page and break that binding in. Maybe you wanted to run or go for a walk but you sit on that couch ignoring that little voice in your head saying hey remember you wanted to do this? Inaction leads to loss of self esteem, self hatred and demoralizing your worth. So what can we do then when all we want to do is cuddle up with that sweet mama jam on the couch and feel it’s embrace? One thing.
One thing refers to you taking control of just one thing. It can be instead of eating a piece of raisin bread you instead snack on some tasty mangos. Instead of watching another episode you turn the tv off and go for a walk, or read a book. One thing refers to taking one small step into action. It doesn’t have to be some huge leap, it can be as simple as doing the dishes instead of letting them sit.
So what is one thing you want to change, cause I get it we all want to tackle all the issues we have. Combat everything at once, but that does nothing except give you anxiety and deflate your sense of action. Name one thing that you want to work towards. It can be personal, relationships, career, working out, anything your heart desires. Once you know it write it down. Get some clarity about it. Spend a few minutes of your day trying to understand what you wish to change, and what you hope to achieve. Maybe you want to be able to squat over 100lbs. But your form is awful and you feel weak. Well maybe you start strengthening your glutes with some banded bridges or crab walks. Maybe you start to work on your mobility so you can reach full depth without pinching. Or maybe you add 2lb more at a time and get a friend to help you out. See how easy it is, the problem is not a lack of ambition and motivation. For most of us it is clarity, not knowing what we want or how to go about getting it, so inaction takes hold and we stay stagnant and still.
Ask yourself about the thing you want to change. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now by making this change? Will this change bring joy to your life? Will doing this help you achieve what you set out too? Really start dissecting it. It’s why doctors work on cadavers, they have to dissect to understand the body more. Same goes for yourself. You can never expect to gain momentum if you don’t first understand where you are trying to go. It’s like driving a car all over with no destination, sure it may be liberating for a time but imagine that as your life. No direction or hope to go there. I know I settled for far to long on things, and didn’t apply action to change it. But that did nothing for me. So it’s up to you to take the reigns back. Are you ready to start?
Today I was at a 9. Wish my wrist wasn’t being a pain. Can’t wait to get my massage next Thursday!! I need it badly!!!
