Limber up
Before/after massage
This is my work. See how her arm has opened ip and her palm is almost open and sitting right? Im a sculptor, molding the body and reshaping it to its original form.
Have you ever felt so stiff that the soreness started to really show up in the simplest movements? The tightness you felt created pain because your body was just so tight?
Thats one thing that I had during this quarantine. The first month so much sitting and staying still that it created so much tension in my hips and back. So how do you combat this? How do you get your body ready to start working out again?
Well stretching is useful. Another thing is foam rolling. Today I foam rolled for about 2 hours. Really focusing on my hips, lower core and legs. So with foam rolling a great way to deal with severe tightness is to just sit on the spot that feels tight. Im not talking 30 seconds, Im saying about 5-10 min. Feel the tissue melt and open up and thats when you know you are starting to relax the connective tissue. It may be painful, it may bring up emotions, it may feel like your joint is going to explode (just make sure you are stable and supported when doing this) but its worth it when you can move without as much or any pain.
So why does it take time to have the tissue melt? Well you know when its tight and it can be painful to work on? Well trying to relax tissue thats tensengrity has been pushed to its limit you have to allow for the body’s sympathetic reaction to shut down. The muscles may have a few reasons for being tight. It could be to protect the area, it could be a compensation for another area, or it could be a sign of weakness in the tissue. So many different reasons, but it could also be an old trapped emotion. Whatever the reason just breathe through it. Focus on your breath and let that guide you. Breathe work is life, it allows you to relax even through pain. By working with your breathe it can change everything.
Are you feeling tight? Sore? Stiff? Grab a foam roller and start getting to it. And when you can find a massage therapist or the like to help you loosen up! Your body is worth it and keeping yourself nice and limber increases your quality of life. And isn’t that worth it?
Today I was at a 7 1/2. Felt a little lethargic and tired, and that foam rolling took a lot out.
