Massage Part 2
There is so much to massage then just oh lets rub your skin. When you feel tightness or stiff then massage is absolutely beneficial! Its essential, self massage is so helpful and finding a massage therapist that you feel comfortable with and is knowledgeable well thats just a plus!!
Massaging tissue isnt just an application of your hands touching flesh. It is touching and feeling all the layers of tissue. It is feeling adhesions in the fascial space or feeling the “ropeyness” of a muscle. It is understanding the insertion and origin of the muscles, knowing the actions they make and to apply that knowledge through touch. There are so many different techniques out there, everyone believes they have the right method of massage and if it works for them then who is to say otherwise. There is not one way to massage and everyone will require different styles, techniques even their practitioners energy because energy exchange and transfer happens. Like I said I feel something someone else feels, there are times I work someone’s shoulder and then mine flairs up. Better grounding techniques on my part are necessary to stop that kind of energy transfer and I have been working on that.
When you feel pain usually where you feel the pain isnt the source of it. It is usually reaching that location finally from all the compensation tendencies you have. If you sprain your ankle that causes a shift in your center of gravity. It also causes you to become more dominant on the other side. Your central nervous system kicks in and could shut off some of the nerves potential to the affected side. Then your limping and the crutches go into play. Then your using one leg to walk and using your armpits to keep balance. It travels up the leg i to your pelvis causing one side to shift up and probably forward while the other side shifts down and back. Now your hips lock up and no matter what you do you have pain in them. It travels up through your back as you start creating a slouch posture to use the crutches. Then eventually it goes up to your neck and now you cant turn to one side. I just illustrated a potential for an old injury. Lets say once you can walk on it you start to feel off and all those pains you acquired from that injury are still there. Your body continues to stay tight and hurt and you cant seem to feel better. Now you see a massage therapist and you tell them its your neck and back that hurts and you forget to mention you sprained your ankle. So the therapist focuses on your neck and back and gives you relief but then it comes back when you get home. You question why you got a massage if it was temporary, and are left back in pain.
Man thats happened to me so many times. I have people always say You always work other areas other then the spot that hurts. Its because I can see the idiosyncrasy of your stance. I see your hips arent level, I see theres a hip hike up, I see one leg shorter then the orher. I see all of the misalignments in your body and I know that what is going on is more then just your neck. Sure I work the neck because who doesnt want relief, but I play detective. From the minute I see my clients walking towards me I am analyzing and trying to figure out where to start. I look at the way they walk, do their feet plant normal, are they pigeon toed. Are their ankles stable, is there any micro mannerisms in their face that show pain while they move one foot to take a step. Is their one shoulder higher. Are they rounded? Hows the pelvis. Literally theres so much more that goes on in my mind but you get the point. I watch because watching is the first step in learning touch. Its how you touch at a distance. So learn to watch yourself. Get a mirror and do squats in it. Walk towards your mirror. A lot of times people use a camera but a lot can be lost in a camera if it isn’t direct on or level.
Then the next thing I do is ask you what is going on? I listen, not just to what your saying but how. Dialect and tone is a way for you to touch with your ears. It tells me how bad your pain level is. I hear what you are saying and with watching I try to combine that to a better understanding of where to start. Its helpful and even when working on you I may ask questions, try to get a little more information or I may just be quiet. I try not to ruin your relaxation with talking.
So now what? You get on the table, my hands know exactly what to do, i look at your body, the tone, texture, even the angles. I do this in less then a minute. Im getting faster! Woohoo! Then I do my work, I unlock one piece then it shows me the next step. It is literally like putting together a puzzle, watching one hip reset now your other hamstring is showing me a rotation medially. Little by little I try to put together this story of you. How your body became this way. I listen to your energy, I hear with my minds eye things from your life. I feel memories in those muscles, I feel emotions in those bones. Some of them you have long forgotten but your body didn’t . I become a body, energy reader slowly unwinding your aches and pains and releasing them with love. Oh yes I am always practicing love when working on my clients.
Then there you are amazed at how good you feel. That pain is no longer there, or you have more range of motion. You feel brighter and less sludge like on your body. That is why I love what I do. Because Im an energy transmuter. You don’t realize this or maybe you don’t want to believe it but those pains are trapped energy. Those old wounds are frequencies that shift your alignment completely off. I get to play with that and learn more and more every time I work on someone. I am only scratching the surface of what I hope to be one day for my clients. I am good but its only relevant to where I was. I am no where yet to where I will one day be. So I’ll keep practicing and trying to perfect it. Ill keep helping and changing every-time I massage someone the style I do.
I hope this enlightens you to understand massage a little more. I hope you see that its about using the senses to touch. Its about being in tune and understanding the human body. Its about imagination and science coming together to blend into my art, because it is art what I do. I work on the mastery of my craft all the time, and in this pandemic being unable to serve, unable to touch, unable to heal well its been maddening. But it has given me time to work on myself so I can be a better practitioner.
Today I was at a 9!! Yesterday I did chakra balancing to myself and today I don’t feel a cloud of misery over my heart or mind for the first time in over 2 years.
