Complaining or Venting

or Venting

Dec 3 Written By Hope Ackerly

Venting is the same as affirming except that it’s affirming things you don’t want. When you focus on something painful or negative you are constantly giving that said thing momentum, making it more and more a part of your reality. But isn’t it good to vent? Actually no, talking about the pain only keeps that pain alive in you. Instead of letting that pain go or instead focusing on other things that bring you joy, you keep that pain going because you keep giving it momentum. Words have power, Beliefs use words to create power, so do you want to keep repeating the same pain by constantly focusing on it, talking about it, making it the main center of attention? Or would you rather change your story by focusing on things that improve your life, or give you joy?

For years I spoke about things in my life, my pain of the past, and how it effected me. I went to therapy for it and it helped me understand what emotions I was feeling, but resolving the past it didn’t. It allowed me to explore myself, explore things for what they were and understand myself, but talking about the negatives only seemed to keep me in a place that was negative. Even know I catch myself occasionally talking about something negatively and than I go into a funk about it. I verbalize it and I feel it only getting more energized and passion behind the words when I speak the frustrations. It’s hard to go from a complaining or venting mindset to a mindful one that practices joy and appreciation. But it can be done.

We all strive for happiness all the time, but it’s actually here right now. Reading my words are you being mindful of them? Are you actually taking in what they are saying? How about in your daily life? Are you more focused on what’s happening with others than yourself? You into the gossip of others? The in your business drama that seems to inhabit every place I go to. Or are you more focused on creating more, seeing more around you, open to the possibilities that seem endless? When you spend time being mindful of your surroundings, mindful of your life, you gain a sense of freedom. Freedom from the negative space that seems to bring forth it’s spew of complaints. You gain peace from the noise. It’s a wonderful feeling, but the second you forget to breathe, you forget to be here now your pulled straight back into the thick of the cacophony of life. I hope for you that you start the self work, self discovery journey into understanding you.

What could you do right now in this moment to just find space for gratitude, or appreciation, or just joy? Pick something in your house, your car, your office, with someone you have a problem and find that thing you admire, or are grateful for. Let’s begin to amplify your positive energy rather than feed the trolls. The choice like always my friend is yours. I hope you choose light!
